Economic development

Practical economic advice for councils and decision makers.

I help councils choose economic development and investment priorities, prepare defensible business cases, and improve the conditions for private investment, local activity and implementation.

I provide practical economic support to local governments, agencies, businesses and other decision-makers making economic development, investment and implementation decisions.

My work is built around clear diagnosis, feasible options and council ready outputs that officers and elected members can use with confidence.

I do not treat economic development as sector promotion alone. In a council context, outcomes are shaped by housing, labour supply, workforce retention, liveability, service access, planning certainty, land readiness, enabling infrastructure, business confidence and the pace at which investment can move from interest to delivery. My role is to make those links explicit, identify where council has the most leverage, and convert that analysis into a staged and practical program of action.

My work is built around decision-ready outputs.

I prepare economic development plans and action programs, business cases and options appraisals, social impact analyses, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, investment enablement advice, and workforce housing and liveability cases. The aim is to produce material that supports real decisions, credible funding asks, clearer project sequencing, and stronger conditions for private investment and delivery.

I am engaged when a local government or organisation needs to sharpen priorities, test what is constraining local activity, assess whether a project or initiative is feasible, prepare a stronger business case, or improve the path from market interest to investment and implementation. My work often sits in the overlap between economics, infrastructure, workforce, planning, services and local delivery.

Areas of focus and experience

I work across economic development strategies, centre and precinct activation, business cases, options appraisals, investment enablement, social impact analyses, and monitoring and evaluation. I also advise on the economic dimensions of workforce housing, liveability, service access, land readiness, approvals, infrastructure and the broader conditions that shape whether local demand can be converted into jobs, business activity and long term community benefit.
