Expert witness

Independent economic evidence on economic loss, quantum, employability, earnings, business interruption and commercial issues

I prepare expert reports for litigation and related disputes where the court or parties need clear economic analysis, transparent reasoning and practical judgment.

Preliminary opinions are usually $1,500 to $3,000. Full expert reports are usually $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the issues in dispute, the volume of material and the scope of analysis required.

I am an independent economist and expert witness.

I act in matters involving economic loss, compensation, employability, work capacity, current and future earnings or income, and related questions of quantum.

My work focuses on labour market economics, earnings and capacity, but it also extends to commercial disputes where economic evidence is needed on business interruption, commercial loss, market conditions, pricing, demand, and the likely counterfactual performance of a business or activity.

I prepare reports that are rigorous, transparent and written in plain English. My reports have been accepted as evidence in superior courts and I have been cross-examined on their contents. I am also engaged before proceedings commence to provide preliminary assessments, assist with early strategy, and support mediation and settlement discussions.

I can assist in matters involving:

  • Employment law

  • Insurance and personal injury

  • Family law

  • Family provision and wills and estates

  • Contractual disputes

  • Commercial litigation

  • Defamation

  • Other disputes where economic loss, earnings, employability, business performance or market evidence is in issue.

Typical questions include:

  • Assessment of past and future economic loss

  • Earning capacity and likely career trajectory

  • Employability and work capacity

  • Labour market prospects and earnings pathways

  • Compensation and quantum issues

  • Superannuation and related long-term loss issues

  • Business interruption and related commercial loss

  • Likely counterfactual revenue, profit or trading performance

  • Market conditions, pricing, demand and commercial plausibility

  • Economic questions arising from workforce dynamics, migration, wages and sector conditions.
